Thinking as he drove to barn that only three of his horses were here. The other one would have to go to the stallion barn. His two mares and his filly were probably tired of being in the trailer as they had been in it all day. The Kiger Mustangs had no problem with the trailer but as for his Quarab, she hated being in the confined space. He backed the trailer up to the barn door. The door of the silver Ford F150 slammed and Andrew Smith hoped out. The worried whinnies and neighs of his horses were bouncing off the wall of the trailer. Andrew opened the back door and unloaded the Quarab, Doubled Stuffed Oreo. He stroked her mane to try and calm her. he took her off to the side of the trailer and let her move around a little bit. With his new job he would love to be as close to his horses as possible. Looking around he was told to meet the vet here. Andrew had no idea how old she was, but her name was Dr. Carr.

Demeter walked down to the barns where the faculty member's horses were boarded. She didn't have to be there for the arrival for every horse, but she liked to inspect the animals after they had travelled just in case something had gone awry and she was needed anyway.
She glanced over her shoulder, and indeed, she was still being followed by the youngest and smallest vet student she had ever had. She didn't dispute the fact that the child wanted to learn, but she did want to argue the girl's age with someone, as the pint sized thing following in her wake couldn't possibly be a teenager. She shook her head as she thought back to the task at hand as she arrived at the barn, pleased to see that the door was clear. "There four horses arriving today." She said, her voice brisk. "Only three of them will be boarded in here though, the fourth will go to Mezzanotte Barn, as he is a colt." She walked farther through the barn and found that the three stalls were ready to go with fresh haynets at the ready.
She turned to look at Cara and wondered, not for the first time, how the child was ever going to handle horses. She was so timid and submissive that any horse, no matter the age or size, would just walk straight over her.
The vet's attention was drawn by the sound of an approaching vehicle and there was a warm welcoming smile on her face before the car door had even slammed shut. "Welcome to Pietra Academy." She said, her voice just as warm as her smile. "Would you like some help getting your horses out?" She would have all four of them unloaded here and then have the man walk the colt through to the other barn. "I am Dr Demeter Carr and this is Cara-Jean Kitchi."

As instructed, Cara had arrived at the equine clinic. She was excited - not that she showed it - to hear that they were heading over to the barns to await the arrival of four new horses; three mares - two mares and a filly - and a colt.
She followed the vet toward the faculty barn, a place students weren't normally allowed, And listened at the vet once again explained the horses that were arriving. If she had been a normal teenager, she would have rolled her eyes at having the information repeated, but she remained respectfully silent, her face showing as much emotion as a rock as they walked down to the stalls that had been prepared for the three females. Now, if it had been her own horses, she would add four drops each of Rescue and Walnut remedies, but as they weren't hers, she didn't.
She looked toward the door as she heard the crunching a gravel under the weight of a vehicle and trailer. She looked sideways at the vet who had the most beautiful smile on her face, something that had yet to be directed toward the girl, and she took a handful of steps backward as the woman addressed the man, she bowed her head respectfully as her name was mentioned.

Andrew smiled as the vet and her student vet. "Thank you and yes please." Trying to sound polite. Oreo whinnied as she still paced around. She didn't take a liking to women and the reason was unknown. "I'm Andrew Smith, the new principal here." His eyes shifted over to the girl had been introduced as Cara. In the trailer the little Kiger Mustang neighed. Andrew pulled Oreo closer to him in attempt to control her. The Quarab pulled away and he let her knowing she was still very nervous.

Demeter smiled as she watched the mare the man was holding prance around. "Your stalls are numbers seven, eight and nine." She pointed in further down the barn toward the stalls. "I'm getting the feeling she'll be happier in her box. From the way she's moving around, she's anxious not injured so she'll be fine. Just make sure she's drinking well."
She then turned to the girl. Her eyebrow arched as the normally serene child looked as though she wanted the ground to open up and swallow her. Surely it wasn't because of the agitated mare? This was going to be a very long day.
"I'll get the other mare out. Cara, I'm sure you can handle the filly, and then I'll bring the colt out while Mr Smith gets his girl's settled." She looked at the girl, who nodded, and the vet headed up the ramp and into the float. "Let's get you onto solid ground." She said as she untied the rope and clicking her tongue she unloaded the mare.
Once on the ground, she inspected each of the mare's legs before leading her around in circles, waiting for the girl to come off the float with the Mustang filly.

Cara took a involuntary step backward as the man's eyes landed on her, her eyes on the ground by her feet. She jumped as her name was spoken, but nodded her head to the woman's words, knowing that she wasn't giving a very good first impression of herself.
She waited while the vet unloaded the other mare before she walked up the ramp and then up to the Mustang filly. "Hello, beautiful." She said softly as she offered the youngster her hand, and bending down to blow up the filly's nostrils. She bowed her head as the filly blew back and it as then that the girl pulled the rope free, turned the baby around and led her down the ramp.
When on the ground, she gave the filly a quick once over. She loved the little dun's face, and if it didn't change too much as she grew, she was going to be a dream to work with, but at the same time she could also prove to be a challenge if not approached in the right way. She led the filly in circles but close to the float so that the young colt wouldn't feel like he had been completely abandoned. She shot the dun colt a concerned look, she didn't like the thought of him being taken away from the other horses he knew and shoved into some big stall by himself, but who was she to comment?

The man pulled the Quarab towards the first stall that Dr. Carr had said. Going in first Oreo followed and stood in the back of the stall. Her eyes looked as if they were going to pop out of her head. Andrew unhooked the teal halter off the mare's head. Her ears flicked nervously around to catch the sounds of the other horses around her. "Dr. Carr could you put Reckless beside Oreo. Maybe she'll calm down. Cara if you want to put Adrenalin, there, in stall number 9 beside her mama, that would be great." Andrew smiled as he closed the stall door. The Quarab mare paced around in her stall, Andrew hoped that Oreo would settled in here soon. "Shhhh.... Oreo, it's okay." He cradled the mare's head to try and attempt to calm her.

Demeter led the short buckskin mare down to the stall she was told to put her in and then released her into the box before closing the door behind her and leaving the horse to explore her new home.
She looked at the Quarab in the stall that Andrew was standing in front of. "She seems rather unsettled." She said with concern etched in her voice. "Is she always like this after travelling?" She knew the amount of damage an unsettled horse could do; not only to themselves, but to the horses and humans around them. She eyed the buckskin mare and wondered what was going on in the mare's head, as she waited for the man to answer her question.
She glanced over to see what was taking her small student so long and frowned hoping that his child wasn't going to let her down, and make her look like a fool in front of the horses' owner.

Cara bowed her head and gave an almost inaudible. "Yes, Sir." She was about to lead the filly in the direction the vet and headmaster had gone but the movement of the colt still in the trailer made her halt in her tracks. She was torn between obeying the words of Mr Smith and keeping the small horse who was still inside the trailer happy. Casting the colt a sad glance, she knew she couldn't do anything, as the vet had said that she would unload the colt and the small girl's training forbade her from disobeying her elders, she clicked her tongue and led the filly forward.
Once she reached the stall, she opened the door wide and allowed the filly to sniff every inch of the entrance before clicking her tongue and leading her through the opening. Using her small frame to block the doorway, she removed the baby's halter before she backed away from the small animal and closed the door, pushing the bolt home as she looked over the door to watch the filly investigate every inch of her new home.
Without seeming to stare, Cara redirected her attention to the mare in the stall beyond the two adults. The mare had a beautiful face, something that spoke more loudly about a horse than any human ever could, and she didn't like to see an animal so stressed. She could offer the man a couple of Bach remedies - that he could give all of his equines - but she dared not open her mouth to speak up.

"Dr. Carr, too be honest. I am not sure. We have never travelled like this." His eyebrows raised as he looked to the vet. Andrew opened the door and then closed it so Oreo couldn't get out. He cradled the mare's head once again stroked her forelock. Her nostrils were flared and her eyes bulging. The buckskin mare nudged him and her breathing slowed down. She walked to the water and started to drink it. Andrew exited the stall. "Looks like she is settling down, finally" A deep sigh came from him. Seeing that the girls were settling in he turned his attention from the mares to the lonely colt who still stood in the trailer. "Shall we get Miracle out of the trailer?" He asked Dr. Carr. He couldn't wait to settle in. Reckless stood up against the wall that separted her and Oreo. Oreo walked over to her and stood beside her. A stressed whinnied filled the barn. Andrew walked towards the trailer. Miracle tossed his head ready to get off the metal contraption. Andrew walked him off the trailer and waited for Dr. Carr and Cara.
